Read the whole silhouette

Proportion is the relationship between parts: jacket length and trouser rise, sleeve volume and shoulder line, a hem and the shoe beneath it. No single measurement explains the whole effect. Looking at an outfit from a few steps away helps reveal where those relationships feel balanced.

Test balance in movement

Stand, sit and walk when assessing a garment. A silhouette that looks composed in a still image also needs room for everyday movement. Watch where fabric pulls or gathers and whether the garment returns comfortably to its intended position.

Work with your own wardrobe

Compare a new shape with something you know well. A wider trouser may change how a familiar knit appears; a longer layer may alter the balance again. These are observations to explore, not universal rules about how a body should look. The useful proportion is one you can wear with ease.
